It's time to set our months-without-a-Jane Austen-adaptation counters back to 0.
Netflix is rushing to fill the void with a new limited series of the Georgian-era icon's most celebrated novel: *Pride and Prejudice*. The streamer released the first teaser of the new series coming this fall on Monday, privileging fans with the first moving images of their new Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.
That's about all the *Pride and Prejudice *teaser reveals, in fact. Most of its 40-second runtime is taken up by Emma Corrin as the rebellious ingenue Elizabeth Bennet sitting on a rooftop in a sensible day dress, staring wistfully toward the horizon. Anticipatory music swells as brief flashes cut into Elizabeth's reverie: hands grasping a stone and a flower, a woman's stockinged legs running through muddy water, eyes meeting during a dance.
Finally, the teaser indulges the real yearners out there with its first glimpse at Jack Lowden as Elizabeth's impetuous, reluctant suitor: Mr. Darcy.
"In a year rife with regency drama for loyal fans, *Pride and Prejudice *will join the yearn-aissance in the Autumn to faithfully bring Jane Austen's iconic story back to life for audiences that cherish it, whilst inspiring a new generation to fall in love with it for the first time," Netflix shared in the release sent along with the teaser.
This new six-episode adaptation of *Pride and Prejudice *was helmed by the prolific Welsh TV director Euros Lyn. Dolly Alderton, who previously wrote the books *Good Material* and *Everything I Know About Love *in addition to her work on numerous BBC series, wrote and executive-produced the series.
"Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it," Alderton shared in the release. "Jane Austen's *Pride and Prejudice *is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life."

U.K.-based cinema-goers were able to see the teaser early, when it played before select screenings of fellow British classic *Wuthering Heights *last week. Before that, only a single image from the forthcoming series had been released: of the Bennet family's nervous matriarch (played by Olivia Colman) and her five daughters marching through a field.
Joining Colman and Corrin in the Bennet family are *Industry *breakout Freya Mavor, who will play eldest daughter and eligible bachelorette Jane Bennet, *Heartstopper*'s Rhea Norwood as baby of the family Lydia Bennet, and newcomers Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery as Mary and Kitty Bennet. Finally, Rufus Sewell will play the kindly, reserved head of the Bennet household.

*Fleabag*'s Jamie Demetriou appears as the cringe–lightning rod Mr. Collins, and *Enola Holmes *franchise star Louis Partridge as the rakish Mr. Wickham. Daryl McCormack, a standout from last year's *Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery*, plays Mr. Darcy's close friend, Mr. Bingley, while *Black Mirror*'s Siena Kelly plays his haughty sister Caroline. Finally, the great Fiona Shaw will join the ranks of Judi Dench, Lena Headey, and Edna May Oliver as the imperious Lady Catherine de Bourgh.****

*Pride and Prejudice *has been adapted many times over since it was first published in 1813.
Most recently, Joe Wright directed Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in a memorable film version which grossed over three times its budget upon its release in 2005.
